Napanee and Area

The Town of Greater Napanee is the proud home of the 2010 Ontario Men’s Curling Championship from February 1st to 7th, 2010.  We hope you enjoy your stay, and take the opportunity to explore all that we have to offer while you’re in Town.

Community Overview

The picturesque Town of Greater Napanee is located in the County of Lennox & Addington, in the heart of Eastern Ontario, offering a quality of life that few other communities can compare. It offers a relaxed, rural lifestyle without sacrificing the first class amenities of larger cities. Greater Napanee has an abundance of scenic and beautiful waterfront to offer visitors. Its downtown core is situated on the beautiful Napanee River, further south its shores hug the Bay of Quinte and Hay Bay renowned for its Walleye fishing. This is Loyalist country and the prosperity of the past can be seen in the many heritage buildings that have been so carefully preserved.

To the south, Loyalist Township offers a great mixture of country lifestyle and urban opportunity.  The Loyalist Parkway (Highway #33) is a quiet 40 km stretch of road between the Parkway's Eastern Gateway in Amherstview and the Glenora Ferry at Adolphustown that is dotted with countless 18th and 19th Century homesteads, major historical sites and tourist attractions.

Directly to the east, Stone Mills Township is home to prime agricultural lands, conservation areas, streams, lakes, and rivers. The gently rolling hills contain charming farm communities and prime recreational land ideal for hiking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, and boating.

To the north, Addington Highlands is a natural playground for lovers of the great outdoors. The area is home to over 100 lakes, rivers and streams that are perfect for fishing, canoeing, and other water-related activities. In the winter, some of these waterways provide links to hundreds of kilometres of snowmobiling trails.

Sport Tourism in the Community

The Town of Greater Napanee – known for many years as a hotbed for fastball – has hosted provincial and national championships for decades.  However, with the unveiling of the Strathcona Paper Centre (SPC) in 2004, a new era of sport tourism was born.

Boasting two NHL-sized ice pads, several meeting rooms and banquet facilities, the complex is ideal for a wide variety of uses.  In addition to many figure skating competitions and large-scale minor hockey tournaments, the SPC has hosted several Ontario Hockey League pre-season games and National Women’s Hockey League games.  In 2008, the facility successfully hosted the high-profile Hockey Canada event – the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

The Strathcona Paper Centre will be an ideal venue for the 2010 Ontario Men’s Curling Championship.  The organizing committee is looking forward to seeing you in the Town of Greater Napanee from February 1st to 7th, 2010 for some great curling action.
