Eleven-rink field for men's curling championship finalized

The 11-rink field for the Ontario men's curling championship next month in Napanee has been finalized.

Arnprior's Chris Gardner captured the Challenge East title over Brian Lewis of Ottawa to claim the final berth yesterday.

Robert Rumfeldt of Guelph was the Challenge West winner on Sunday, earning him a spot in the Tankard at the Strathcona Paper Centre, Feb. 1-7.

Regional play determined eight berths.

The eight winning rinks from regional play were Chris Ciasnocha of Trenton, Bryan Cochrane of Ottawa Rideau, Peter Corner from Brampton, London Highland's Kirk Ziola, Joe Frans of Thornhill, Tara's Mark Bice, Rob Lobel of Whitby and Jay Young from Brantford.

Coldwater's Glenn Howard, who has won the last four provincial men's titles, received a bye.

The round-robin provincial championship will begin on Feb. 1. The winner of the tournament will represent Ontario at the Tim Hortons Brier.
